Meet the personality hire HR didn’t know you needed. Intentionally crafted with the utility of a grotesk, paired with enough gusto to leave an impression, I designed this font family to reflect my own identity. Hardworking, lighthearted, and just serious enough to keep it business casual.

A font for work and play.
From the onset of this project, I knew I didn’t want to make just another sans serif. I wanted to create a font family I would actually use, one that could serve as a workhorse for my personal brand, while still being distinct enough from the hundreds (if not thousands) of sans serif grotesks on the market today.

Handwriting to handcrafted.
To make the family feel uniquely mine, I drew inspiration from the quirks of my own handwriting. Dramatic shoulders, open finials, and curled tails lend the letterforms a distinctly gestural quality.

Print, analyze, edit, repeat.
Over the course of twenty-odd weeks, I explored an iterative process in designing each character, moving back and forth between refining individual letterforms and evaluating the set as a whole.

Business casual, by design.
In designing the specimen book, I leaned into the business-casual personality that had developed within the typeface, filling spreads with corporate jargon and post-it-yellow accents as a tongue-in-cheek nod to the font’s quirky yet utilitarian nature.

Spreading the word.
As a final showcase of the font family’s capabilities, I developed a series of posters to launch Ralley Sans into the world. Through these posters, I aimed to highlight the rhythm of the letterforms, the tonal range across weights, and the distinct character of the family as a whole.
