ArtPhilly
ArtPhilly produces, presents, and promotes contemporary art that celebrates the diverse cultural identities of Philadelphia. Together, we refined that expansive mission into a focused, festival-based arts organization with a clear and distinct role within the city’s creative landscape. Through strategic planning and consensus-building with artists and arts leaders across Philadelphia, we clarified ArtPhilly’s position within a scene that is subjective, sometimes elitist, and deeply diverse. With that foundation in place, we set out to create a brand identity that reflects the energy, vibrancy, and multiplicity of the city’s neighborhoods and artists.

Bringing art to life.
The concept behind the ArtPhilly brand draws inspiration from the eclectic energy of a gallery wall combined with the structured geography of a city grid. This system allows for artists you might never expect to share the same room, or gallery, to coexist within a highly flexible visual framework used across touchpoints throughout the city.
The custom logotype was born out of the same thinking: a wild mixture of voices and talents that somehow work together to create the whole.

Causing a scene since 1776.
ArtPhilly’s inaugural “What Now?” Festival will launch in 2026 as part of our country’s 250th birthday, where Philadelphia will be center stage. The intent of asking “What Now?” is to interrogate our country’s founding and where we go from here.
We built a festival identity to flex across all the possible places they’ll need to promote and tell that story.

Words of art.
The voice of the organization was born out of the proud and playful spirit of our city. The voice captures ArtPhilly’s larger than life ambition and its ongoing impact on Philadelphia’s Arts & Culture scene.

Street art.
In promoting the organization and festival, we leaned into the pedestrian nature of Philadelphia. Putting art in the street and meeting the people where they are.

Our mediums run large.
ArtPhilly’s programming spans everything from performance and fine art to pop-up installations, poetry, and culinary arts, demanding a brand system that could adapt across disciplines. We responded with an expansive color palette and typography system, creating a highly customizable identity capable of flexing to each medium.
